Description
-
Mt. Shasta in California. Part of the Cascades Mountain Range, Mt. Shasta is the second tallest stratovolcano in the range at 14,179'. The range reaches from Washington through Oregon to Northern California for over 700 miles along the Pacific coast. The volcano and surrounding areas are managed by the U.S. Forest Service within the Shasta-Trinity National Forest. The landscape surrounding the volcano is hilly and covered with grasses and evergreen trees. The picture was most likely taken in the winter due to all of the snowpack on the mountain. Slide labeled with text, "Made by G.R. Swain, 713 E. University Ave., Ann Arbor, Michigan." Swain was staff photographer at U of M from 1913 to 1947.
