Description

Lumberjacks felling a cedar tree in Washington. The two men have notched the tree and stuck planks into the tree base so they can stand on them in order to cut the tree where the grain is even. It is noted that the grain of the tree is bad at the foot of the tree. Slide labeled with text, "Made by G.R. Swain, 713 E. University Ave., Ann Arbor, Michigan." Swain was staff photographer at U of M from 1913 to 1947.
