Built to house Elizabeth, the daughter of Peter the Great, when she was denied succession to the throne and decided to become a nun. Her predecessor was overthrown in a coup and she was offered the throne and chose it over becoming a nun. Architect was Francesco Bartolomeo Rastrelli and it was built 1748 and 1764. Today it is used as a concert hall.
Largest Russian Orthodox cathedral in the city. It is dedicated to Saint Isaac of Dalmatia, a patron saint of Peter the Great. Built from 1818-1858 by architect Auguste Montferrand.
