The houses also share fireplaces because a single chimney rises out of the houses where they connect. Dense vegetation lines the road and obscures the fronts of the houses.

  • A field of wildflowers "Ontario. Kincardine"

Photograph of a wildflower field in the shadow of a vertical rocky cliff in Ontario, Canada . It is noted that the photograph was taken in July of 1929. Several houses sit at the base of the rocky outcropping and a narrow walking path cuts through the meadow. Jefferson would often use the same negative to create a lantern slide as well as a mounted stereographic card. When possible we have indicated if it is a repeat image, however this is not always the case. As such, there may be a corresponding digitized glass lantern slide, and a mounted stereographic card associated with this stereographic negative within the Mark Jefferson Collection.

Photograph of a man sitting on a pile of rocks. The man wears a hat and appears to be reading a piece of paper. Large trees grow around the pile of rocks. The pile of rocks is near an open field. Mountains rise in the background.
  • A miner's house. Penna Mahanoy City

A miner's house in Penna Mahanoy City, Pennsylvania. The house is likely a split residence, or a portion of if was added onto at a later date because the materials do not match. It is a wooden structure with six bays and a shingle roof. A timber fence surrounds the house, giving it a stockade feel. A coal pile can be seen in the foreground and a large hill covered with vegetation can be seen in the background.
