Built to house Elizabeth, the daughter of Peter the Great, when she was denied succession to the throne and decided to become a nun. Her predecessor was overthrown in a coup and she was offered the throne and chose it over becoming a nun. Architect was Francesco Bartolomeo Rastrelli and it was built 1748 and 1764. Today it is used as a concert hall.
Largest Russian Orthodox cathedral in the city. It is dedicated to Saint Isaac of Dalmatia, a patron saint of Peter the Great. Built from 1818-1858 by architect Auguste Montferrand. Luthern Church made of stone masonry and is the tallest church in the world. The foundation was laid in 1377, but was not completed until 1890. Gothic style architecture.
Construction of this house began in the 15th century and evolved with different architectural styles. Baroque facades and gothic styles of 15th and 16th centuries molded the building, which began as townhouses. Rococo decorations were added during the 1700s.
